Francis Returns to Lineup as UMD Men’s Hockey Preps for St. Thomas

This is the 2nd straight year the Bulldogs and Tommies have clashed in an exhibition game.

DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD men’s hockey team is set to take on St. Thomas in an exhibition game on Saturday for the 2nd straight season.

The Bulldogs would ring in the new year last year with the 2 to 1 win.

UMD gets a boost to the lineup this weekend when Will Francis makes his return.

Francis has been out all season long while dealing with a leukemia cancer setback.

Head Coach Scott Sandelin confirmed the news in his presser. He also stated that the exhibition contest gives the team an opportunity to try new things.

“They’re having a good year. They’re a much better team. They’re getting better every year. Our health concerns me a little bit with some guys so that’s a question mark. They’ll be some guys in some positions because of that. Whether it’s power plays or penalty kills, probably get all three goalies in there and see how it goes,” said Sandelin.

The lone contest is set for 4 PM on Saturday.
