With New Coach, Superior Girls Hoops Looks to Keep Momentum Going
The Spartans will next be in action on Tuesday when they host Duluth Marshall.
SUPERIOR, Wis.- The Superior girls basketball team have offically surpassed the midway point of their season and so far they remain in the hunt for the Lake Superior conference title.
The Spartans are being led by Mackenzie Meneguzzo, who took over for Dave Kontny, after he stepped down after 16 years at Superior high school.
Meneguzzo has installed a few changes.
One of the biggers ones has been the team’s defense.
The Spartans now run man instead of their usual zone, which has received positive reviews from the players.
“It’s been great so far. I think our offense has been really good running up and down the floor. We’ve been good at getting rebounds. I think our defense has come a long way. Having to transition from zone to man has been a challenge but it’s been good so far,” said senior guard Eva Peterson.
“We’re adapting to it of course but it’s exciting. It’s a growing point for all the girls to know all the fundamentals of man and just the intensity and setting the bar for this year and keeping it going. Even though we’ve had successful years in the past, we’re trying to keep that momentum going,” added senior guard Kloe Zentkowski.
