Prep Hockey: Superior Girls Win 10th Straight, Grand Rapids Boys Rally Against Spartans

Superior girls 16-1 overall, Grand Rapids boys 8-6 overall

SUPERIOR, Wis.- One Superior Spartan hockey team continued to ride their winning streak while another team was unable to hold onto their third-period lead.

The Superior girl’s hockey team won their 10th straight game on Thursday, defeating Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 4-0. The Spartans were unable to score in the first period, but their consistent play on defense helped them return to their scoring ways in the remaining two periods. This win puts the Spartans at 16-1 overall. They’ll now travel to Medford on Saturday before taking on Grand Rapids/Greenway at Yanmar Arena.

Meanwhile, the Grand Rapids boys scored four goals in the third period to rally for a 5-2 win over Superior. Each team scored a goal in the first period, but the Spartans pulled ahead in the second period with a goal from Tyler Olson. Despite trailing after two, the Thunderhawks came alive in the third period, claiming their eighth win of the season and avoiding a drop to .500.

Grand Rapids will stay at home on Saturday when they host Moorhead. Superior (7-6-1) will now go on a six-game road stretch, which will last through the month of January.
