Pilgrim Congregational Church Holds Special Service to Honor MLK’s Legacy

DULUTH, Minn. — On Sunday, the Pilgrim Congregational Church of Duluth held a special service honoring Martin Luther King Jr. ahead of Monday’s holiday.

The Central Hillside Gospel Choir opened the ceremony in style. Sunday’s worship focused on MLK’s message of how love and acceptance can drive away hate.

“The civil rights movement, while centering the injustice against African Americans, has become a landmark for all who are buckling from the weight of oppression in this country and all over the world,” said Reverend Dr. Jia Starr Brown. “While this movement does in fact highlight disparities and the humanity in the systemic grips of racism that divide us, it also broadens and continues to bring people of all races, of all creeds, of all identities together.”

Monday, community breakfast will be available from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Starting at 10:30 a.m. the community is welcomed to gather at the Family Freedom Center before starting their march downtown towards the DECC for Duluth’s MLK day rally.
