#7 UMD Women’s Hockey to Welcome in Defending Champs #2 Wisconsin

Wisconsin won the national championship at AMSOIL Arena back in March of 2023.

DULUTH, Minn.- After being swept by the top ranked team in the country, Ohio State this past weekend.

The 7th ranked UMD women’s hockey team returns home this weekend to face the 2nd ranked team in the nation, the Wisconsin Badgers.

It’s the 2nd series this season that the Bulldogs have met up with the defending national champions.

Back in December, UMD would split with Wisconsin, falling in game one 3 to nothing before coming home with a 3 to 2 victory in game two.

Head Coach Maura Crowell says it comes down to the little things when facing teams like the Badgers.

“I think just gutsy performances are critical against especially these top teams whether it’s blocking shots, eating pucks on the wall at the right time, getting the lines. Little habits make a huge difference,” said Crowell.

“Obviously we need to score this weekend. We didn’t get a single goal last weekend which is a hard thing especially for the forwards. That’s going to be our focus for this week on producing more offensively,” added senior forward Clara Van Wieren.

The Badgers and the Bulldogs drop the puck on Friday at 3:01 PM.
