UWS Attracts Foreign Students From All Over the World.

SUPERIOR, Wisc. — Wednesday was the first day of the Spring Semester at the University of Wisconsin Superior. Students from across the country and from 40 different nations are attending the school this semester.

In all, there are about 2,700 students at UWS, and 21 of them are first-year students from other countries. Kali Kelleher, is in charge of international admissions for the school. She says the school actively recruits students from other countries.

“We have a lot of students join us from word of mouth,” said Kelleher. “They have a cousin or sister. So a lot of students tend to keep attendance at UWS in the family. Usually, they find out by word of mouth. We have a great scholarship program as well.”

One of the first-year students who is attending this year is from Bangladesh. Suryowmoni Roy said he had high praise for UWS, especially in the computer science area.

Roy said “I have been admitted to quite a few universities in this country. But because of the diversity and especially for an English learning student, I chose this university.”

Tasneem Aidali, nicknamed “Nemo” is a junior from Sudan Qatar and is majoring in Mathematics. She has plans to be a scientist. “I wanted a school someplace that I didn’t know before,” said Aidali. “Also, admissions was very welcoming in the whole admission process. I felt very safe even before I came to the States.  So it was comforting for me to choose UWS and the programs are very good here.”

Another reason foreign students choose UWS is that UWS can provide partial scholarships for some of the students.  UWS makes the students feel welcome fom the moment they land. There to meet them at the airport is a representative from the school.
