#7 UMD Women’s Hockey Continues Homestand with Series Against Minnesota State

The Bulldogs have already taken down the Mavericks twice this season.

DULUTH, Minn.- The WCHA postseason race heats up this weekend when the 7th ranked UMD women’s hockey team welcomes in Minnesota State-Mankato into AMSOIL Arena.

UMD, who’s 5th in the conference, is currently chasing St. Cloud State, who’s 3 points ahead of the Bulldogs.

Minnesota State on the other hand, will have to make up some ground as they are 16 points behind UMD.

The Bulldogs have already taken down the Mavericks twice this season.

In order to make it three and four times, Head Coach Maura Crowell says their defense will be key.

“Defense is always going to be important to us and goaltending. That’s not just our defenseman, that’s our team defense and being really structured and responsible. Because if you watch our games, you know a lot of our offense is generated from the D-zone,” said Crowell.

“Not being complacent for playing good defense. We want to be the team that takes it to these other teams. Just going into Mankato, continuing to stay on that attack. I think that’s going to help us offensively,” added sophomore forward Mary Kate O’Brien.

Game one is set for Friday at 6 PM.
