A man has been charged in the crash that severely injured a Duluth firefighter who was jogging.

The criminal complaint filed Monday identifies the driver as 88-year-old Ronald Gene Myrdahl of Duluth.

Myrdahl is charged with “Criminal Vehicular Operation–Great Bodily Harm–Driver Who Causes Collision Leaves Scene.”

The complaint says Myrdahl was driving his minivan on Grand Avenue in Duluth about 5:45 pm.

He told police he had forgotten to turn on his lights. The complaint said another motorist flashed their lights to get Myrdahl’s attention.

The complaint says Myrdahl veered onto the shoulder twice and eventually heard a “thump.”

The complaint says Myrdahl told police, “…that after hearing the thump, he turned the headlights on, slowed down to check what he might have hit, did not see anything, and then kept driving.”

The man hit was 24-year-old Raymond Skoglund. When paramedics arrived, he was unconscious and barely breathing.

Skoglund had multiple serious injuries, has had surgery, and faces a long recovery. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with bills and expenses.
