Black Woods Blizzard Tour Shifting Gears This Year
DULUTH, Minn. — One of the largest snowmobile fundraising events is shifting gears this year.
The Black Woods Blizzard Tour is normally a 3-day snowmobile ride all to raise funds for finding a cause and a cure for ALS. But this year is a little different. With temps in the 30s and 40s and very little snow the snowmobile ride portion is canceled. But Never Surrender Inc. has come up with an alternative.
This year on they will be starting at Skyline Social and Games dividing into teams to play games such as duck pin bowling, regular bowling, axe throwing, and basketball. They will then go to Fortune Bay for the night. And the next day will go curling up on the Iron Range.
The President of Never Surrender says no matter what this is still a fundraiser first.
“We’re more than just a snowmobile ride, we’re about raising money and helping people. So, our people stay involved, we have a hundred volunteers that plan all year and are still there to help us. And it’s evermoving with the weather, but we’ll have activities going on,” said David Kolquist, President of Never Surrender Inc. and chair of Black Woods Blizzard Tour.
This is the 25th year of the fundraiser. They have only had to cancel the ride portion 4 times due to lack of snow. The fundraiser begins February 7th and ends February 10th with a celebration dinner with a goal to raise $2 million.
