St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Celebrates New Hires and Promotions
County goes from understaffed to hiring 49 new employees

DULUTH, Minn. — Nearly 50 St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office employees were recognized today as new hires or for recent promotions.
The ceremony celebrated all different roles in public safety, including communications, court security, janitorial staff, and cooks. Sheriff Gordon Ramsey says they went from understaffed to recruiting what’s likely the most hires in a year. He said those honored today show are dedicated to law enforcement and anxious to serve their community.
“When a loved one, or someone you know, is sent to jail you want to make sure they get the best care by the best people,” Ramsay said. “That’s why it’s important we encourage people to go into public safety and that we respect those that go into public safety and really hold them in high regard for answering that call to public service.”
Twenty four of today’s honorees were new hire correctional officers. Many, including Cody McShane, found support in each other, the Sheriff’s office, and their own support systems.
“Any time there’s a job in law enforcement, I think its crucial to have support,” McShane said. “One thing that the county has been great at has been showing us that support both from the administrative side and then allowing us to find support within our own systems and from our families.”
McShane and the other honorees have already started in their new roles across the county.
