Warm Weather Didn’t Cancel Rice Lake Winter Frolic

RICE LAKE, Minn. — The warm weather brought some concerns over the winter frolic in Rice Lake. But thankfully, Rice Lake city park had more than enough snow for some winter time activities.

For the past five years, the city of Rice Lake has gathered their community for their winter frolic. This being their fourth year outside.

Kids, parents, and community members alike had the chance to sled and take a short ride on a three-wheeler. Or take a break next to a cozy fire with some smo’res and hot chocolate.

They hope that holding public events like this and national night out allows for more rural communities to get to know their neighbors and community better.

“We would like to keep this event going and keep growing it,” said Rice Lake Mayor Suzanne Herstad. “We are a rural community but we want people to know that we’re here and that we want to meet you, we want to hear from you.”

Rice Lake’s Winter Frolic is put on by city staff and donations from community members.

Usually people have the chance to ice skate on a frozen pond, but the warmer weather deterred people away.
