Fire Destroys Historic Lutsen Lodge
LUTSEN, Minn. — A devastating fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Historic Lutsen Lodge.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a fire alarm at the resort along the North Shore at 12:24 a.m.
Staff from Lutsen Resort, which is Minnesota’s oldest resort, reported smoke coming from the floor in the lobby. The flames quickly grew to engulf the lodge.
No guests were on-site and no injuries were reported, at last report.
A post on The Historic Lutsen Lodge Facebook page Tuesday morning read:
“The Historic Lutsen Lodge has been taken by a devastating fire this evening…. A total loss to the lodge building…. Fires in 1949, 1951 and 2024. The amazing memories made here are in our hearts as we begin the heavy weighted process to rebuilt back better.”
The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.
Lutsen Fire Department, Tofte Fire Department, Tofte First Responders, Grand Marais Fire Department, Maple Hill Fire Department, Gunflint Fire Department, Finland Fire Department, Silver Bay Fire Department, Grand Portage Fire Department, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident.
The fire comes less than a year after flames destroyed the nearby Papa Charlie’s restaurant at Lutsen Mountains on June 24, 2023.
