#8 UMD Women’s Hockey Looks to Continue Winning Ways Against St. Thomas
The Bulldogs will look to improve their record of 9-0-1 against the Tommies on Friday at 6:01 PM.
DULUTH, Minn.- The 8th ranked UMD women’s hockey team is back on track after picking up the sweep over Minnesota State this past weekend.
The Bulldogs push for home ice in the postseason continues on Friday when they travel to play the Tommies of St. Thomas.
UMD is currently two points ahead of St. Cloud State for 4th in the WCHA. And a chance to earn six more points against St. Thomas is on the minds of the team.
Head Coach Maura Crowell says her team has been in playoff mode since the Quinnipiac series in early January.
“When we approach it in that way and you have some failures, I think that’s beautiful because you can learn from it and you still have time to get better at it right. If we enter playoff mode in February and March and make mistakes then you season ends. I like where our mentality has been. I think we’ve learned a lot through it and I think we keep getting better and better in big moments,” said Crowell.
Back in November, UMD would break out the brooms against St. Thomas, that included a 34 save performance from goaltender Hailey MacLeod.
“I think it just allows me to feel confident knowing that if I do let in a squeaker goal or something like that, I have a team that can back me up. And they’re also going to make it hard for them to get to those pucks to make rebounds or put rebounds away. We have good defenders and they’ll clear the pucks for me when things get chaotic in our zone,” said MacLeod.
MacLeod, who was named a semifinalist for women’s hockey goalie of the year, and the Bulldogs= will look to improve their record of 9-0-1 against the Tommies on Friday at 6:01 PM.
