State Fire Marshal Releases Details On Last Inspection At Lutsen Resort Lodge Before Fire

Lutsen Lodge

LUTSEN, Minn. — The Minnesota State Fire Marshal has released details of an inspection that took place at Lutsen Resort Lodge last summer. This comes after an early Tuesday morning fire took out the entire building.

According to the release, 7 violations were found, 4 of which the property owner had repaired. Authorities say it is too soon to determine if the other 3 violations played a role in the fire. Those were related to tests of the sprinkler and fire alarm systems, along with fixing an emergency light.

SFM says they cannot predict how long the investigation will take place to find the cause or origin of the fire. They have investigators looking through debris and ashes to review any physical evidence. They will also review paperwork and conduct interviews.

The inspection took place on July 6. By state statute hotels are inspected for fire safety once every 3 years.
