Hermantown’s Peyton Menzel Officially Signs with UMD Football

Menzel hauled in nine touchdowns last season for the Hawks.

DULUTH, Minn.- Last week, the UMD football team announced their signing class of 2024.

One of those 32 players to sign with the Bulldogs was Hermantown wide receiver Peyton Menzel.

On Wednesday, Menzel made it official as the school hosted a signing ceremony.

Menzel, who had nine touchdowns for the Hawks last season, says being able to play close to home plus the Bulldog coaching staff is what made him choose UMD.

“I knew I wanted to stay close. Just being able to play at UMD and stay by family so they can watch me was a big part in that. UMD’s a great school so it’s going to be a lot of fun. One thing at UMD that really got me was the coaching staff. Just a bunch of nice people and I know them because they’ve been in the community previously. It’s awesome being able to know them going into school already,” said Menzel.

Menzel as well as Two Harbors’ Zach Bentler and Duluth East’s David Lundstrom make up the locals that joined UMD.
