Local Chocolate Shop Offering Up Special Valentine’s Day Treats
DULUTH, Minn. — If you are still unsure of what to get that special someone for Valentine’s Day, candy and chocolate continue to be among the most popular gifts on the day of love. There are several places to shop locally for sweets, one of which is Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Canal Park. Inside you will find plenty of heart shaped boxes and candies, but they are most excited about the products that are specific to this holiday.
“The holidays are so fun because we get product in that we don’t get to carry year-round. But in particular we get the really big long-stem strawberries in for Valentine’s Day. It’s just so fun to take a little extra time and just make something extra beautiful for people,” said Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory manager Libby Bolen.
This year, consumers are expected to spend over 25 billion dollars in celebration of Valentine’s Day. An estimated 57% of those celebrating will be spending some of that on candy and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is ready for the busy day.
“It is the most last minute holiday there is. With Christmas, with Easter, you see a buildup. People will buy ahead. But for Valentine’s Day, our biggest day is Valentine’s Day. Our number one seller for Valentine’s Day is strawberries and strawberries are best given the day they are dipped,” said Bolen.
Other Valentine’s Day specific treats include red velvet fudge, strawberry cheesecake fudge, truffles, and special apples. Typically they open at 11 am during the winter, but will be opening early Wednesday with 3 employees dedicated to dipping strawberries.
