Grand Rapids, Andover, Hermantown, Hibbing/Chisholm Advance to Section Championships
Thunderhawks to face Huskies, Hawks taking on Bluejackets
DULUTH, Minn.- A busy Saturday at Amsoil Arena saw four teams advance through the MSHSL Sectional Semifinals.
In the 7AA semis, Grand Rapids defeated Rock Ridge 6-2. The Thunderhawks earned three goals in the first period, which were scored by Nathan Garski, Kyler Miller and Gavin Forrest.
Grand Rapids will move on to face Andover, who beat Duluth East 4-1. The defending sectional champions led 2-0 after two periods before scoring two more in the third period.
In the 7A semifinals, Hermantown faced Proctor, who the Hawks previously defeated 2-1 in the regular season. Despite the Rails scoring first on Saturday, Hermantown would even the score with a River Freeman goal before taking full control in the second period.
In the final game of the evening, Hibbing/Chisholm pulled an upset, defeating Cloquet/Esko/Carlton 4-2. The Bluejackets will now try to prevent Hermantown from successfully defending their section title on Wednesday, which will also take place at Amsoil Arena.
