Sen. Amy Klobuchar Receives Award From American Legion
Senator Amy Klobuchar has been chosen for the American Legion’s 2024 Distinguished Public Service Award.
The award quotes Klobuchar as being, “a champion of important legislation that The American Legion has prioritized year after year, and she has tirelessly worked to improve our national security.”
“She has not only represented the interests of Minnesotans, but she also has been a true advocate for our military veterans service members and their families stationed around the world. Senator, I personally want to say thank you, for all the work that you have done and continue to do for our fellow veterans and their families,” said Daniel J. Seehafer, American Legion National Commander.
The American Legion says Senator Klobuchar has led the way on the bipartisan Afghan Adjustment Act that would provide a path to permanent status to tens of thousands of Afghans who were evacuated to the U.S. following the fall of Kabul in August 2021.
“What it does is it says 80,000 people that are here have some kind of a path to permanent residency, because they’re basically living on top of a trapdoor at any moment. That could be sent back to the Taliban, they have to re-up their requests every single year, and yet for our soldiers, and I think you all know, our veterans and our active duty, how much they care about these Afghans that were translators. They were Intel gatherers. And they come up to me all the time, not talking about their own stuff. But talking about these people,” said Klobuchar.
The American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization aimed at advocating patriotism across the U.S. through diverse programs.
