UMD Women’s Hockey to Open WCHA Tournament Play Against SCSU

The Bulldogs would boast a 2-1-1 record against the Huskies in the regular season.

DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD and St. Cloud State women’s hockey teams have gotten to know each other pretty well over the last couple of weeks.

Friday’s contest will mark the 3rd time they have faced off in 14 days.

But this series really counts as it’s the beginning of the WCHA tournament.

The Bulldogs would boast a 2-1-1 record against the Huskies in the regular season.

And just last year in the tournament, UMD broke out the brooms against SCSU in the first round.

Head Coach Maura Crowell says she’s been preaching to her team to just play.

“Managing the pressures that come with playoff hockey, enjoying the moment, enjoying the fact that we got ourselves to this point, enjoying being the home team here this weekend and being able to sleep in your own beds. All of those things. But, also let’s not make this into too big of a deal. This is hockey. This is the same thing you’ve been doing all year. Continue to stick with your habits, continue to make sure you’re dialed in,” said Sandelin.

UMD will look to go 8-1 against SCSU in the postseason on Friday at 4 PM.
