Duluth Marshall and Hermantown Robotics Teams Move on to the Championship
DULUTH, Minn. — The Duluth Marshall and Hermantown Robotics Teams are heading down south to Houston, Texas, to compete in the FIRST Robotics World Championship.
The Marshall Topperbots were the first team in the area to qualify for the world competition, that will take place starting April 17. This is the second time the team has made it to worlds, the last time being in 2018. Saturday the Topperbots were getting in some work with their robot on a practice field. One member of the team says the championship means everything.
“The dream in robotics is going to championships, so I am really excited to see that,” said Silvia Galindo, a member of the Marshall Robotics Team. “It’s a completely different competition, instead of competing against 55 teams, you’re competing against 80 of the best teams in the world.”
The Hermantown Talons are going back to back to the championship after qualifying for the second year in a row. The team was tuning up their robot this weekend as they prepare to compete against teams from across the world. The championship brings in hundreds of teams and thousands of attendees each year. The social media captain for the Talons said the championship is like no other.
“[Last year] the competition was a lot harder because it was worlds, but it was just a really cool experience because being there and seeing everything going on and all the other teams and robots, and talking to a bunch of different people that you would never see otherwise,” said Broden Bruhjell, Hermantown Robotics, Media Captain.
The Talons will be hosting a silent auction on April 6th, at Skyline Social and Games. The auction will help fund the trip to the championship for the team.
