Duluth Art Institute Hosts Last Event at The Depot, Closing in on New Location
DULUTH, Minn. — Tonight was the Duluth Art Institute’s last event before they leave The Depot.
Art lovers joined together for Art Night Out, a social event celebrating the closing of two exhibits, Allison Baker’s Tender Vignettes and Annelise Roseen’s Today I Am. People were not only able to enjoy the artwork, but talk to the artists about the creative process.
“To get all that and to get the education and the inside information and to really understand the journey of an artist is imperative. It’s really a beautiful gift to give back to the community,” said Executive Director Christina Woods.
The art institute says their goal is to change the world through visual art, not matter its location. After 50 years at the Depot, they’re close to finding a new home.
“The best way, really the only way, to make it through this crazy world is to take adversity and turn it into an opportunity. So, that’s what we’re dedicated to doing,” said Board Member Robin Washington.
The art institute is looking to announce their new location as soon as next week. However, Board Member Robin Washington says the new space will be temporary and the institute’s goal is to find a building of their own and to give Duluth the art museum it deserves.
