Fire Shuts Down Split Rock Lighthouse Tuesday

COOK COUNTY, Minn. — A fire in the woods near Split Rock Lighthouse caused the entire historic site to shut down and evacuate on Tuesday.

This was the fiery scene surrounding the landmark, captured and shared by Split Rock Lighthouse on Facebook.

Acting in caution, all guests were evacuated at around 2:30 pm, according to the Facebook post. Crews were able to put out the fire by 4:30 pm.

No buildings or structures were damaged. Split Rock is open as normal. Multiple agencies responded to the fire. No word on what caused it yet.
