Lake Superior College Reopens Library After $2.3 Million Renovation
DULUTH, Minn. — A project 10 years in the making is now complete at Lake Superior College.
The Harold P. Erickson Library has reopened after undergoing a $2.3 million renovation. The new space brings services all to one spot instead of scattered across campus like they were before. That includes the Tutoring and Learning Center, the federally funded TRIO Student Support Services, and the student Technology Support Center, as well as 10 study rooms.
“It’s a space that we had to make certain that all of those services could work together. We want to be certain that they could be and share the same space without really getting in each other’s way,” said Dr. Patricia Rogers, President of LSC.
Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert was a former professor at LSC. He says libraries are critical to academic success.
“It was a place that as a teacher I used a lot. I was teaching political science, so this was where students came to learn about how do I find information, how do I assemble information, and even how do I write about information in a way especially that helps us engage as citizens in a civic space,” said Reinert.
The library even allows food and drinks. The space is not only open to students, but to the community as well.
