Moose Lake Pedestrian Who Died Identified; Driver, 21, Charged

UPDATE (March 25, 3:30 p.m.) — The pedestrian who was struck and killed by a 21-year-old male driver on March 21 has been identified.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office says the person has been identified as 61-year-old Justin McNeil from the City of Moose Lake.

Brent Keranen, 21, of Pengilly, Minnesota was under the influence of alcohol at the time, according to authorities.  He is charged with one county of Criminal Vehicular Homicide.

The incident remains under investigation.

ORIGINAL POST (March 21, 9:54 p.m.):

MOOSE LAKE, Minn. — A 21-year-old male driver is accused of killing a pedestrian in Moose Lake while under the influence of alcohol, according to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the driver who is from Pengilly, Minnesota, is being held on a preliminary charge of criminal vehicular homicide.

The call for help came in around 2 p.m. Thursday on reports of a pedestrian lying in a ditch along Highway 73 and Jon Brown Drive.

When help arrived, the pedestrian was already dead, according to authorities.

The driver was later located and arrested.

FOX 21 does not normally name suspects until they are formally charged by the County Attorney’s Office.
