Boxes of Cereal Start to Pile up for the “Duluth Cheerio Challenge”

DULUTH, Minn. — The “Duluth Cheerio Challenge” is gaining traction as boxes of the cereal are starting to pile up at the drop-off site at the Duluth Labor Temple.

The “Cheerio Challenge” is in response to billionaire Kathy Cargill’s recent insult on the city, including Mayor Roger Reinert.

She told the Wall Street Journal last weekend that he “peed in his cheerios” when questioning her plans for 20 properties she purchased on Park Point.

The cereal boxes will be donated to four Duluth food shelves for Minnesota FoodShare Month. And today, Project Joy stopped by to donate in the form of $5,000 checks for each food shelf.

“We’ve all known that Duluth is a great community and so even just seeing the response to this in the community and who it benefits is a wonderful thing,” said Laura Plys, Project Joy Coordinator.

The food shelves benefiting from the donations include CHUM, the Domiano Center, Union Gospel Mission and the Salvation Army.

The “Cheerio Challenge” ends at 4 p.m. Friday at the Labor Temple on London Road.
