100 Students Take Part in Annual Math Meet at UW-Superior
SUPERIOR, Wis. — 100 math students from 8 high schools met at UW-Superior Wednesday for their annual Math Meet.
Students compete individually and as teams in a variety of subjects including geometry, calculus, and algebra among others. Part of the event was a math lecture by one of the professors showing the real world application of some of the more sophisticated math concepts. For the students, it is an opportunity to meet others with similar interests and be exposed to a college campus.
“It’s a super great event for the students to come and learn about some neat math, and also communicate with other students who are interested in the same field. And for UWS, it’s a great opportunity to really show what we have to offer in math,” said Jonathan Totushek, math and computer science chair at UWS.
UWS tries to host the Math Meet every year, but on more than one occasion the event has to be cancelled due to the weather. And no, figuring out those odds was not one of the questions they were asked to solve.
