After Many Years of Club Play, C-E-C Boys Lacrosse Eager for First Season

C-E-C players previously played for the Northern Siege club team.

CLOQUET, Minn.- The sport of lacrosse is becoming more and more popular in the Northland.

Just this spring, there are four varsity teams beginning their first-ever seasons.

That includes, the Cloquet-Esko- Carlton boys, who have been previously playing for the Northern Siege club for many years.

The Lumberjacks are led by head coach Lucas Mehelich, a former lacrosse player himself at Concordia-Wisconsin and UMD.

He’s set to rely on seniors Saige Moran and Jake Peterson to lay the standard for the team.

Moran, who’s committed to play collegiately at Clarke University, says he’s excited to represent his school but admits their battles only get tougher this year as a first-year program.

“It’s going to be a learning curve because varsity lacrosse is definitely going to way different than a club tournament. There’s going to be a lot more competiveness and it’s just going to be more difficult to play against tougher guys. We’re just looking for fun, it’s going to be fun but be competitive at the same time,” said Moran.

As for Peterson, he wouldn’t surprised to see himself and his teammates perform well this upcoming year.

“Every day at practice, everybody is getting after it. We’re all here, we’re all bringing the energy and we’re just really excited to be here. We know that we get down to business when it’s important to,” added Peterson.

C-E-C’s first game is Thursday evening at home against Rocori.
