UMD Sorority Sisters Volunteer for Red Cross

DULUTH, Minn. — Phi Sigma Sigma sorority members from the University of Minnesota Duluth have been busy helping the Red Cross, but not by giving blood.

They’ve been making hand-written thank you notes and signs to support Veterans who will be participating in the Twin Cities Honor Flight on May 6. Notes have also been created for first-time blood donors.

The Red Cross Youth Board says the need for blood donors remains high.

“So, blood is needed every 10 seconds in the US. So, in order to help that we encourage donors to come back and donate again, if they’re able to,” said Hunter Zamzow, from the Red Cross Youth Board. “Today, for example, with our work with Phi Sigma, Sigma, we’re increasing like knowledge about the helpfulness of donation. We’re increasing, like encouraging people to donate.”

Check out the Red Cross website for requirements needed to donate.
