Partially Collapsed Apartment Building Update

Partial Bridge Collapse

SUPERIOR, Wis. — Following the partial building collapse and gas leak Thursday at the Franklin Apartments in Superior, nearly all tenants have been allowed to return to their apartments.

However, a building engineer reported that the collapse may have damaged the support structure under two apartments, and now a third apartment has been added.

The collapsed section needs to be cleared of debris so that it can be checked for structural damage. A spokesperson from the City of Superior Building Inspection Department says it may take a week or two to complete that process.

At Happy Hearts, the childcare center next door, the center’s director Andi Reznick says everything is back to normal on Friday. She was pleased with how well the staff handled the emergency situation. The event led to the center beginning to put together a formal evacuation plan, just in case an evacuation is ever needed again.
