Spring Weather and Upcoming Grandma’s Marathon Bringing in Business for Local Shoe Stores

DULUTH, Minn — As we get deeper into spring and the last of the snow is melting, people have been putting away their ski boots and getting out their running shoes.

For some, it marks another season of training for a marathon, and for others it is going out for a casual jog with friends. Duluth Running Company on Superior Street is one of several shoes stores in Duluth that are seeing an uptick in business now that warmer weather has arrived. They are excited to see people getting active outside again and are eager to help those looking to replace those pairs of shoes that perhaps aren’t in as good of shape as they remember.

“It’s getting nice outside, people want to run. Grandma’s is right around the corner and a lot of other races that are coming up in the Duluth area. So, we get people coming in now, and even sometimes in January looking for a pair of their training shoes. You know, if you’re running a marathon you go through a couple pairs of shoes in that training time,” said Duluth Running Company retail experience manager Addison Kyte.

With the weather constantly in flux this time of year, having the right apparel to run in a variety of temperatures is important. Knowing what to put on is key to staying comfortable when heading out for a run.

“You’re gonna want to run in something that you would walk in if it was 20 degrees hotter. So, if it’s 50 degrees out, go what you would run in in 70 degrees,” said Kyte.

If you are in the market for a new pair of shoes or apparel, this weekend they are having their tent sale where they are marking several items down by as much as 50% off.
