SUPERIOR, Wis. — A city-wide Earth Day cleanup took place in Superior Monday.

City departments all coming together for the first time to organize groups of community members to take part. Nearly all of Superiors parks, trails, boat launches, and other city spaces are getting cleaned. The hope is to raise awareness of the need to protect our Earth.

One group is doing more than just picking up garbage.

“So today is not only about cleaning up the Earth but also the people that are on the Earth, taking care of them as well. So, we’ve gathered items from our boutique, we own a boutique as well, Posh Boutique and some of our last season items, our last year’s items that we have one or two left. We’re taking all of those donating them to the foster care system,” said Raya Horst, owner of Serenity Spa and Salon.

The business is also donating essential items such as toothpaste, deodorant, and toilet paper as well. A total of around 370 volunteers were picking up garbage and doing small projects between Saturday and Monday.
