Hartley Nature Center Hosts Earth Day Cleanup

DULUTH, Minn. — We only have one Earth and to see so many people come out here and want to help us take care of it, and to take care of Hartley Park, which is a special place for Hartley Nature Center, it’s really exciting,” said Matt Willey, Hartley Nature Center Stewardship & Recreation Program Manager.

During a day that’s dedicated to our planet, people got outside to clean up one of Duluth’s Natural Landscapes.

Hartley Nature Center was one of many cleanup destinations on this earth day.

Earth Day is a day to give back to our environment, and that’s just what people did at Hartley Nature Center, as they collected trash and unwanted items.

Cleaning up trash doesn’t just protect nature; it also rids items that can be potentially dangerous to wildlife. And it doesn’t take a designated day to clean up around the community.

“The beautiful thing about a trash cleanup or an event like this is you don’t is you don’t need a lot of tools to do this,” said Willey. “And this is something that we can do every day of the year, it doesn’t just have to be on earth day, but really you know, we go out there with gloves just to protect folks from anything that might be sharp, could potentially injure anyone. And a couple of buckets and trash bags and that’s really all you need.”

Hartley Nature Center is a 600-acre park in the woodland area. The park has cross country skiing, hiking and mountain biking trails. Along with other opportunities for adventure.
