Groundbreaking Ceremony For New Stadium at University of Wisconsin-Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. — Thursday marked the official start of construction as dirt is being moved for the new stadium at UWS.

The Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium will be the future home for both the UWS men’s and women’s soccer teams, and track and field teams. The field will have turf, stadium seating, and a press box. It is accessible not only to the college but the whole community as well.

“We’re really envisioning this to be a community university partnership where the playing surface is available much longer in the season. Available for youth and adult leagues as well,” said Renee Wachter, Chancellor of UWS.

One soccer player is excited to have a field to play on within walking distance.

“We’ve been waiting for it awhile and all the guys are super excited just to be able to play on a field on campus not off campus and call it our home. Instead of playing at the high school which isn’t really our home,” said Carter Lansdale, multi-media journalism student.

The new stadium was a long-time coming with the UWS soccer teams not having a place on campus since 2016.
