Wisconsin Gov. Evers Stops in Superior for “Pothole Patrol” Tour

SUPERIOR, Wis. — Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers made a stop in Superior Wednesday as part of his annual statewide “Pothole Patrol” tour.

The initiative is to help fix Wisconsin roads and discuss the investments to improve the local streets and highways around the state. Evers signed a budget including $550 million for transportation projects underway and $100 million for local roads across the state. The general transportation fund has also increased by 2%. Over last 5 years they have improved close to 7,500 miles of road and over 1,500 bridges.

“We’ve made more investments in the last 5 years that I’ve been Governor than any time in our previous history. The problem we have is that we got so far behind the efforts that we have a lot of catching up to do and we’re catching up, but we need to continue investing,” said Evers.

Evers also spoke about the issue of work-zone safety. He says it is important to recognize the local people who restore our roads.

“The people that do this hard work you know obviously they get paid, but the bottom line is you expect to go home after a day’s work and 10 people did not and I think that’s a tragedy and we have to do better,” said Evers.

There are typically 350 to 375 projects but this season there are over 425 projects with more resources to do them. Officials say to be alert and stay safe as you go through work zones.
