Northeast Minnesota Fishing Outlook For 2024 Season
MINNESOTA — The Minnesota Fishing Season Opener is this weekend, and the fish are out and about this year.
The Minnesota DNR tells us that although Northeast Minnesota is known for its beautiful lakes and rivers, there are plenty of fish to catch while enjoying the scenery. An expert says the walleye population is abundant this year. Northern Pike and Small-Mouth Bass are really active and there is great trout fishing in lakes and streams. About one in five people fish in Minnesota.
“You know fishing opener is a traditional thing. We have families that they block out a week or weekend in May to get together and head to the cabin, head to a lakeshore and just hang out with friends to fish. And that’s recreation in Minnesota, you’re getting people outdoors to experience fishing,” said Jack Lauer, Southern Regional Fisheries Manager for the MN DNR.
The DNR suggests making sure you have your angling license, are aware of any special regulations of the lake you’re fishing on, your boat is registered, you have all the safety equipment you need.
