Northland High Schools Compete in a Burger Cook Off
DULUTH, Minn. — It was a day filled with flipping burgers for four high school culinary classes on Friday.
There was some friendly competition between northland schools today as they competed in the first annual Northeast Minnesota High School Cook Off.
Duluth East, Duluth Denfeld, Rock Ridge and Cook County schools participating in the burger cook off.
The cook-off focused on bringing awareness to programs such as culinary. The teams worked together to prepare burgers for a panel of judges.
“I love to see the communication, the collaboration and it’s also just bringing unity within the region and bringing schools together with these programs,” said Adam Wisocki, Duluth East Culinary Instructor.
One Duluth East student says not only did his culinary class teach him about cooking, but it taught him many life skills as well–especially when going against other schools.
“Of course we play here to win, but the point is it’s fun to see that other schools are just as motivated to be cooking like we are, so it means a lot to (Duluth) East as well,” said Dominic Perez, Duluth East Senior. “It’s not like we’re always, oh we are trying to beat these teams, but it’s just a since of comradery that we’re able to have with these other teams as well.”
Through the cook off, the schools hope to promote budget increases for Northeastern Minnesota Career and Technical Education Programs.
