Authors Of Northern Waters Smokehaus Cookbook Talk Recent Award Nomination

DULUTH, Minn. — Northern Waters Smokehaus is receiving recognition for their cookbook, Smoke on the Waterfront.

This is the first cookbook that has been written for the Smokehaus. It took years to complete and came out just in time for their 25th anniversary this last November. The book features recipes that were converted from industrial size to ones you can simply make in your home. That includes building sandwiches, sausage twisting, to smoking, brining, and grilling different meats.

Authors say feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. They were most recently nominated as a finalist at the Minnesota Book Awards under the General Nonfiction category.

“Cookbooks aren’t often nominated in the book awards at all. But especially in the General Nonfiction category so that was really cool to be in like a very prestigious category as a type of book that doesn’t necessarily get that type of interaction,” said Ned Netzel, co-author, and works at Northern Waters.

The cookbook was a group effort as a few people all came together to write it, along with others who helped in the process. They did not win the award, however the experience to be nominated was one the author’s say they’ll never forget.

“It’s something I don’t think we really thought that would happen. You know we thought it would be kind of a nice thing to have in the store to be able to show people and showcase our story and our product but yeah it’s just a huge honor and really we’re very grateful that it you know has kind of taken us on this tour and we’ve been able to kind of showcase the Smokehaus a little more for those people that haven’t you know necessarily been privy to us in the past,” said Nic Peloquin, co-author and former kitchen manager.

The Smoke on the Waterfront cookbook is available in store, or you can order it online.
