National Police Week: A Message From The Duluth Police Chief
DULUTH, Minn. — Law enforcement members from across the country are honoring and remembering lives lost in the line of duty.
It’s part of National Police Week and Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa says 58 law enforcement members have been killed in the line of duty so far this year. In the history of the Duluth Police Department, 6 officers have been killed. As for this year Ceynowa says there have been 8 incidents that have resulted in 14 officers injured.
In a post on social media Tuesday, the Chief asked this of citizens. “Please take time this week as you see our staff out and about just to give a simple gesture so that they know how much you appreciate them. Thank you, Duluth. We appreciate your support. And we hope that we all stay safe.”
According to the National Fraternal Order of Police a record 378 police officers were shot while on the job in 2023, that is a 14% increase from the previous year.
