Friends Of The Lakewalk Host Clean-Up In Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. — A local volunteer group is helping keep Duluth clean.

Friends of the Lakewalk hosted a clean-up Wednesday. They partnered with the UMD Enrollment Management for a total of about 40 volunteers. The group hosts two clean-ups a year, one in the fall and one in the spring. And Wednesday was all about picking up trash and sprucing things up for the warmer weather.

Partnerships are what keep the clean-up efficient.

“People greatly appreciate Duluth and how clean we are here. But it takes a community to keep it that way. So, that’s really important that we partner with other groups to do this,” said Jim Topie, President of the Friends of the Lakewalk.

UMD staff took a half-day to participate. They were very excited to do so.

“So, anything that I can do to be a part of this and plus getting to do it with my coworkers, getting to do it with my team, makes it even more amazing. The fact that we can all do this together, the fact that UMD and our staff allows us to do this and take a half day to do this is amazing. So, yes very very exciting,” said Madi Lamia, UMD First Year Admissions Counselor.

The Lakewalk Clean-Up was split up into different sections such as Brighton Beach to 47th Avenue East, as well as the connection into Lester Park.
