Hawk Ridge Housing Development Opposition

Hawk Ridge Meeting

DULUTH, Minn. — A cottage-style housing development planned for Duluth’s Hawk Ridge is meeting opposition.

The development is planned for four acres of land which needs to be rezoned to allow homes there. At Monday’s City Council meeting, several residents expressed concern about the possible environmental impact the project could bring.

According to one of the architects present the cottage style development is designed to contribute to the life and stability of surrounding neighborhoods through allocated public amenities that are not intended to overwhelm the area. The City’s Planning Department approved a design for 24 homes, but not the 32 desired by the developer. The item could be placed on the Council’s next meeting agenda for discussion in two weeks, with a potential vote in June.
