Northwest Outlet Celebrates 70th Anniversary

SUPERIOR, Wis. – If the walls at Northwest Outlet could talk, they would have an interesting story to tell. The store’s first 70 years and the three generations of the Miller family have operated and expanded the store.

Today, the store is perhaps best known as an outdoors outfitter for generations of customers. But Scott Miller, who has worked at the store since he was 11 years old, and is now the third generation to run the business, says Northwest Outlet did not start that way in 1954.

Miller said, “The First day that we were open for business, my grandpa and our business partner has started a small little army surplus kind of household goods type of type of store back then. And it was, it was a real, real small little shop. It was the building that they had bought was an old car dealer at one point and, things were a little different back then. And it was just a real tiny building. But over the years, we’ve added on and expanded and, you know, we’ve just, we’ve built a lot of great friendships in the community.”

Over the years, Northwest Outlet’s footprint has grown but has been able to continue its reputation for having good customer service.  Miller says the employees have been instrumental in the store’s reputation.  Some employees have worked at the store for 20 or 30 years and have customers that come back year after year.

To celebrate its 70th anniversary, Northwest Outlet will be having a week-long celebration beginning June 10.
