National Bike Month is Celebrated in Duluth
DULUTH, Minn.– Friday was a great day to bring out the bikes.
With May being National Bike Month, people ditched the cars on their commute Friday morning.
Riders also had the opportunity for bike checks and mechanical advice.
Raising awareness about safety and sharing the roadways is also a large part of bike month. Being able to educate the public on these topics is crucial to ensure safe biking.
“All around the country people are coming out, bringing their bikes out, getting them ready for the season and biking to work,” said Tomlin Swan, Community Event Coordinator. “And trying to bring attention to the need for safer biking infrastructure, safer biking environments, more inclusive bike culture. So that we can have multimodal of transportation. Cities and streets that really allow people to get around multiple ways, and not just in cars. It’s better for the environment, it’s better for peoples’ health, and better for social connection.”
As the summer approaches, bikes advocates recommend going out on the trails and streets.
