Day 22: Duluth Civic Center Pro-Palestine Encampment

DULUTH, Minn. – Wednesday, May 22, marked exactly three weeks since pro-Palestinian protesters set up an encampment in Duluth’s Civic Center.

There were around 10 tents set up Wednesday evening.

One protester, who did not want to be named, has been at the encampment since the beginning.

He said Homeland Security asked the group to move off federal land near the federal building, so they moved everything over to the city’s side of the Civic Center near City Hall.

The setup included a portable fire pit and a table of food and drinks.

“I’m glad I did. It is a powerful experience. It’s been a powerful experience out here,” said the unnamed protesters. “We’re working towards the upcoming DFL convention. We can not only apply pressure on the city, but also the federal government when they come to town.”

The city’s last statement on May 8 said no citations had been given and no further updates would be provided unless the situation changed.
