Virginia Man Charged in Stabbing of Two

Criminal complaint says fight started outside bar.

A Virginia man has been charged with the stabbing of two people over the weekend.

Israel Albert Wayne Contreras, who turns 48 on Thursday, faces two felony counts of 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and a misdemeanor involving reckless use of a dangerous weapon.

A man and woman were stabbed, with the man needing to be hospitalized.

The criminal complaint says it started outside the Rainy Lake Saloon in Virginia about 2:30 Sunday morning. The male victim said Contreras threw a bottle at him, because Contreras thought he was talking about him.

A witness said Contreras then grabbed a pocketknife and began stabbing the man. The complaint says a woman was also stabbed when she and another man tried to stop the fight.

Police officers said Contreras had blood on his hands and sweatshirt, and that a knife with blood on it was later found in the men’s bathroom.

VIRGINIA, Minn. — Virginia police are investigating a double stabbing that happened over the holiday weekend.

Police responded around 2:14 a.m. Sunday in the 200-block of Chestnut Street.

A man and women were found with stab wounds.

Investigators also located a bloody knife in the restroom of the Rainy Lake Saloon at 207 Chestnut, according to a news release.

A male suspect, who turns 48 on Thursday, was arrested.

A motive was not released Tuesday.

As for the victims, the woman was treated and released from Essentia Health in Duluth for non-life-threatening stab wounds.

The man remained hospitalized in stable condition at last report.

Formal charges were pending Tuesday against the suspect.
