Anglers Gear Up for ALS Fishing Tournament

DULUTH, Minn.– Anglers are preparing to take to the waters Saturday for the 29th annual Kolar Toyota ALS Fishing Tournament.

The fishing tournament takes place on Island Lake each year. The event is held to benefit individuals living with ALS and their families.

ALS is a progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This year 108 boats are registered to cast for a cure.

Additional participants are competing in the tournament virtually. This year bass, walleyes and muskies can be registered by the anglers.

“It’s just really amazing all of the support that we have from obviously the anglers that keep coming back and new ones that come and fish with us every year,” said Tournament Director Blake Kolquist. “Gathering and joining forces to raise a ton of money for ALS and patient care and research efforts to hopefully find a cure.”

Over $175,000 has already been raised this year, with the money supporting those with ALS and their families.
