Northwood/Solon Springs Baseball Primed for Sectionals

Co-op program seeking first state tournament berth

MINONG, Wis.- The Northwood/Solon Springs baseball team has a chance to reach its first-ever state tournament in the co-op’s history.

In each of the last four years, the Green Eagles have reached sectionals after capturing the Regional Championship. This season, Northwood/Solon Springs has gone 16-1 overall and is undefeated against Wisconsin opponents.

On Tuesday, Northwood/Solon will begin sectionals against Washburn, who the Green Eagles have become familiar with in recent years.

“”It’s a team we’ve seen quite a bit in the last couple of years,” says Nate Ahlberg, the head coach of Northwood/Solon Springs. “We’re 3-1 against them. The one loss came last year at sectionals, so I guess we’re happy to see them and get a chance to settle the score a little bit in that sectional game.”

“It’s going to take the whole team to get the job done (Tuesday),” says senior Abe Ahlberg, a shortstop and pitcher with the Green Eagles. “No matter if you’re taking pitch count, playing right field, on the mound, pitch strikes, run the bases well like we have all year, and hit the baseball.”

Northwood/Solon Springs is scheduled to face Washburn in Bruce on Tuesday at 10 a.m., with the winner moving on to the Sectional Final at 4 p.m. that same day.
