Small Business Owner Shawn Savela Announces MN House District 8B Campaign
Long-term Duluthian to run against incumbent Alicia Kozlowski and independent Tim Meyer

DULUTH, Minn. — Duluth’s Shawn Savela announced on Tuesday morning he is joining the race for Minnesota House District 8B.
Savela earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in computer science from UMD. He’s run a software consulting firm for over 25 years and believes his business background will serve Duluth well. Savela will face incumbent Democrat Alicia Kozlowski and independent Tim Meyer.
“I am stepping up and outside of my comfort zone, because I believe the entire state government under Democratic control is hurting both Minnesotans and businesses across the state, and pushing them both out of Minnesota,” Savela said in a press release. “My interest is in putting our collective future first, finding ways to ensure the people, public safety, education and core services come first when spending our tax dollars.”
This is not his first political campaign. Savela ran for an at large Duluth City Council seat in 2023, but did not make it out of the primary election. He said his new campaign is committed to advocating for Duluth citizens through programs and services.
