Sailing Lessons in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. — Some lessons on the water set sail in Duluth on Wednesday.

Students from Harbor City school had the opportunity to get some hands-on learning with sailing. This was hosted by the Duluth Superior Sailing Association. The kids were taught some basics ranging from the parts of the boat, wind direction, and tying knots. This event is divided into two days, so the students eventually learn more about sailing itself. They are hoping the kids grow a passion for sailing, along with learning the skills. The organizers say this is an activity anyone can get started with.

“The beautiful thing about sailing is that you can start it at any age. said Waterfront Director Zachary Lange. “You can come from any different background, and you don’t have to have any experience to learn how to sail. So, you just get to really use the elements, and all that good stuff, to get out on the water and get a boat moving without an engine.”

The Sailing Association always has something going on. Anyone can join and become a member. They work with nonprofits to put on events like races on Fridays, and adaptive sailing on Tuesdays.
