Duluth Girl Becomes First Female Eagle Scout in Troop 9

DULUTH, Minn. — A new addition at Chester Bowl has elevated a local scout to the rank of being an Eagle Scout.

Clarice Goman has been a part of Troop 9 since the pandemic. Amongst some of the first girls in Scouting America, Clarice has worked hard juggling an active social life, school, sports, and scouting. Clarice has always been involved with Chester Bowl since she moved to Duluth back in 2016. To receive the honor of becoming the first woman Eagle Scout of Troop 9, Clarice decided to construct a gaga ball pit for kids in the community to enjoy.

“When I joined it was like the first girls that were allowed in Duluth. We were definitely separated from the boys and it was interesting to see how we’ve grown,” said Clarice. “Just really pushed through, like it’s super hard when you hit sixteen and you can drive, and you got a job, and good friends, and school. It’s a lot. But if you stick with it, it’s a super fun program where you learn so much. I say stay active, stay motivated.”

Only around 2% of Scouts make it to becoming an Eagle Scout. But Scouting runs in the Goman family as her father made it to the rank of being an Eagle Scout, and her brother Charlie isn’t far behind.

“Clarice had put so much effort between all of her sports and everything to work on this. It’s a very cool thing. It’s a lot of work and effort to do,” said Charlie Goman, Clarice’s brother and senior patrol leader of Troop 9.

As part of receiving her ranking, Clarice had to pick a project that served the community. She felt that the Chester Bowl neighborhood needed more recreational opportunities for youths. She raised the money, gathered the team, and built a gaga ball pit. Gaga ball is a fun game where you must hit a rubber ball at another person’s leg to be the last person standing.
