Share the Road: Motorcycle Safety this Summer in Wisconsin
WISCONSIN. — The State of Wisconsin’s June Law of the Month is a safety reminder to drivers and motorcyclists to share the road and stay alert.
In the past five years, about 2,000 motorcycle crashes have taken place annually in the state resulting in an average of 1,700 injuries and 100 fatalities per year.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation encourages drivers to look twice when pulling out from a stop sign, turning or changing lanes, and keep a safe following distance to avoid collision.
For motorcyclists, WISDOT says to ride defensively and not take risks, look out for gravel and sand, and safety gear, like helmets, is highly encouraged.
All road users should obey traffic laws, put down distractions, and drive sober, WISDOT says.
Wisconsin does have a motorcycle safety program. More information can be found here.
